Tragedy struck Haiti as a 7.0 earthquake rocked the Caribbean nation. Haitian-born recording artist Wyclef Jean is asking the public for their prayers and support for those affected by a powerful earthquake that struck Haiti on Tuesday. In a statement sent to GlobalGrind.com Tuesday, the former Fugees rapper said, quote,
“I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse. The over 2 million people in Port-au-Prince tonight face catastrophe alone. We must act now.”Wyclef is asking the public to donate through a text message campaign organized through his Yele foundation, established to assist his Haiti homeland. Wyclef says five-dollars will be automatically donated to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund through those who use their cell phones to text “Yele” to 501501. The public can also visit http://www.yele.org/ to make a donation. The magnitude seven-point-oh earthquake struck near Haiti’s capital of Port-au-Prince. There were several strong aftershocks. President Obama has pledged U.S. assistance to Haiti.
